Health Care Cost Breakthrough Team
Team Purpose
This team has broadened its focus beyond reducing health care costs for incarcerated populations to looking for any health care cost reduction opportunity.
Current Status
This team continues to track the county-wide savings from HB 2893, effective July 1, 2006, that brought discounted savings on hospital bills and physician services for inmates in county and city detention facilities. The law required that local governments compute the Medicaid rate and pay the bill appropriately. As such, the team along with the Kansas Department of Corrections, created a low-cost option for this to be accomplished centrally. Most local governments have selected this option.
The team is currently looking at options for lowering medical supplies purchasing costs for local health departments, county jails, ambulance services and other governmental entities. |
